Job Summary:

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) will provide administrative support and care in the Emergency Department at Mount Carmel St. Ann's. This role requires a graduate of an accredited School of Practical Nursing with a current license in good standing to practice as an practical nurse in the State of Ohio. The ideal candidate will have one to two years of previous experience and effective communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Greets and escorts patients to exam rooms
  • Measures and records vital signs
  • Records patient interviews and histories
  • Provides approved patient education materials upon direction of a provider or RN
  • Prepares patients for examinations, routine screening tests, and procedures
  • Assists providers or RNs with procedures as needed
  • Performs phlebotomy and obtains lab specimens as ordered
  • Performs testing to meet regulatory requirements as ordered
  • Performs point of care testing as ordered
  • Performs EKGs as ordered
  • Prepares and administers medications (no IV medications) based on written provider orders
  • Changes dressings as ordered
  • Removes sutures/staples as ordered
  • Assists in emergency situations under the direction of a provider
  • Maintains a clean, well-stocked patient care area
  • Abides by all federal mandates
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and abides by all HIPAA guidelines

Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Practical Nursing
  • Current license in good standing to practice as an practical nurse in the State of Ohio, IV certification preferred
  • One to two years of previous experience preferred
  • Effective communication skills
  • Current BLS/CPR and maintain current certification
  • Demonstrates skills and abilities in clinical and administrative areas including phlebotomy, office lab testing, patient care, injections, vitals, and EKG
  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • Ability to work as a member of a team
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and make decisions based on established policies and procedures
  • Basic computer skills required, previous experience with EMR preferred
