Are you ready to take on a pivotal role in the educational sector? The Helix School is in search of a dedicated and enthusiastic Special Education Teacher/Coordinator to enhance our Middle School program.
As the Coordinator for the Middle School Program, your responsibilities will encompass:
Coordinator-Specific Duties
Alongside leading one of the three middle school classes, you will:
- Develop and execute the bell/block schedule in collaboration with the Director of Teaching and Learning and fellow middle school educators.
- Proactively oversee and manage the middle school timetable.
- Work with the middle school team to select curriculum and support its implementation.
- Foster a strong sense of community within the Middle School, ensuring collaborative expectations, routines, and procedures are consistently applied across all classes.
- Guide middle school educators in adopting effective teaching methodologies.
- Engage regularly with the Director of Teaching and Learning.
- Conduct meetings with the Middle School team to address teaching needs and assist the Director of Teaching and Learning in educator meetings.
Teaching Responsibilities
- Design and implement an engaging curriculum tailored to the unique needs of middle school students with autism. Your creativity will be essential in developing innovative strategies that promote academic growth, life skills, and social-emotional well-being.
- Apply evidence-based practices to create and execute individualized education plans (IEPs) that cater to the specific needs and goals of each student. Your expertise in autism intervention will facilitate differentiated instruction, ensuring every student achieves their maximum potential.
- Encourage the development of social skills and a sense of belonging among students. Through structured activities, group projects, and community involvement, you will empower students to form meaningful relationships and navigate social interactions with confidence.
- Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team, including speech therapists, occupational therapists, behavior analysts, and parents, to devise comprehensive strategies that support the holistic development of each student. Your effective collaboration and communication skills will be vital in achieving optimal outcomes for your students.
Qualifications:
- Special Education Certification (Required)
- Demonstrated experience working with neurodivergent students, particularly those with autism (Required)
- Thorough understanding of evidence-based practices and interventions
- Strong knowledge of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and experience in their development and execution
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills for effective teamwork with a multidisciplinary team and parents
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of neurodivergent students
