Job Summary

The Director of Development, Regional Giving is a key member of the University of California-Davis Development and Alumni Relations team, responsible for leading fundraising efforts in the regional giving area. This role requires a seasoned fundraising professional with expertise in major and principal gifts, as well as a strong understanding of frontline development principles.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of success in building and managing a portfolio of donors, with a focus on securing gifts of $50,000 or more. They will be skilled in strategic relationship development, prospect identification, and donor stewardship, with a strong ability to communicate effectively with donors and stakeholders.

This is a metric-driven role, with a focus on raising gift dollar amounts as established through an annual business planning process. The Director of Development, Regional Giving will work closely with the University Development team to develop and implement fundraising strategies, as well as collaborate with other departments to advance the university's mission and priorities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Major Gift Fundraising: 80%
  • Fundraising Planning & Program Responsibilities: 20%

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Advanced professional frontline fundraising experience, with a minimum of 3 years of experience in major gifts prospect portfolio management
  • Highly knowledgeable of and experienced with development and fundraising techniques, including prospect identification research, evaluation of historic gift data, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and donor stewardship
  • Demonstrated success soliciting and securing significant philanthropic gifts, with a focus on gifts of $50,000 or more
  • Expert political acumen, with the ability to establish and maintain good working relationships at all organizational levels and with outside constituencies
  • Related experience conceiving, writing, and editing fundraising presentations, case statements, and proposals for support of program priorities

  • Awareness, knowledge, and skill in applying diversity, equity, and inclusion to one's work
  • Highly developed computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as constituent relations software
  • Experienced road warrior with extensive domestic travel experience
