We are seeking a skilled Bridge Maintenance Technician to join our Salem District Structure & Bridge Team. As a member of our team, you will be responsible for performing bridge maintenance and construction-related tasks, including operating light to medium-duty equipment, forming footers, abutments, and wing walls, and placing and finishing concrete.
Key Responsibilities- Operate light to medium-duty equipment to perform bridge maintenance and construction-related tasks
- Form footers, abutments, wing walls, and place and finish concrete
- Erect steel beam structures, install timber and concrete bridge decks
- Clear roadways of snow, ice, and debris, and clean up after accidents
- Provide traffic control
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor
- Knowledge of highway and bridge maintenance methods, equipment, materials, and safety practices
- Skill in the operation and use of light and medium-duty equipment, as well as in the use of hand and power tools
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations to measure and lay out constructed elements on bridges and culverts
- Safety shoes required
- Ability to obtain CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months of employment and maintain thereafter
- Experience in carpentry, building forms and false works, and concrete placement and finishing
- Experience with light to medium-duty equipment and hand and power tools
- Experience in bridge maintenance or construction
- Valid Certified Crane Operator with appropriate endorsements
As a Bridge Maintenance Technician with the Virginia Department of Transportation, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, including bridge maintenance and construction. You will also have access to training and development opportunities to help you advance in your career.
