Key Responsibilities
  • Establishing customer profiles in our point-of-sale system (Scrap Dragon).
  • Regularly updating customer records to ensure accuracy and eliminate duplicates.
  • Performing general administrative tasks, including preparing meeting agendas, managing files, and handling incoming calls with appropriate routing.
  • Conducting project-based research, such as identifying potential customers and compiling summary reports.
  • Operating the cash register or POS system to accurately process transactions, ensuring correct pricing and promotions, and securely handling credit and debit card transactions.
  • Welcoming customers, addressing their questions, and providing information regarding our recycling services, rates, and procedures. Assisting customers in locating and weighing recyclable materials and offering guidance on material separation.
  • Issuing receipts or invoices for transactions, maintaining precise records of daily cash activities, reconciling cash at shift end, and preparing daily cash reports.
  • Keeping the cashier area organized, clean, and stocked with necessary supplies.
  • Adhering to company policies and security protocols concerning cash handling, fraud prevention, and customer privacy, while ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Collaborating with fellow cashiers and team members to ensure efficient operations and assisting in training new cashiers on procedures and customer service standards.
  • Addressing customer concerns and complaints promptly and professionally, escalating complex issues to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Maintaining a tidy and hazard-free cashier area, following safety guidelines, and reporting any safety concerns.
  • Conducting end-of-day office cleanup, including emptying trash and organizing the kitchen area.
Qualifications and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior experience in cash handling, preferably in a retail or customer service environment.
  • Strong numerical and mathematical abilities.
  • Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in operating cash registers or POS systems.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in cash transactions.
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Knowledge of recycling practices and materials is advantageous.
  • Dependable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
  • Familiarity with office productivity tools, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and calendar management systems.
