Job Summary:

The LVN is responsible for the day-to-day coordination and monitoring of the clinic medication room. In the absence of the LVN Supervisor, the incumbent assists with supervision and scheduling of Medical Assistants. Additionally, the LVN provides direct support to professional staff due to enhanced capabilities in areas related to medication administration and other medical procedures.

Key Responsibilities:Essential Functions:
  1. Implement safe therapeutic care to patients.
  • Safely perform and document nursing procedures required by the patient.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in performing nursing skills.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of procedures and/or protocols.
  • Demonstrate safe and efficient use of specialized equipment.
  • Demonstrate accurate administration of medications.
  • Prioritize own workload relative to patient care needs.
  • Complete clinical assignments in a timely fashion, including maintenance of equipment and supplies necessary for provision of patient care.
  • Medication stock
  • Medical/surgical supplies
  • Maintain a safe, therapeutic, physical environment.
  • Complete non-clinical assignments, tasks, and projects within a pre-established agreed-upon time frame.
  • Coordinate patient care activities with other nursing staff and physicians.
  • Seek out resources when feeling uncomfortable or when a situation exceeds the scope of practice.
  • Explain tests, procedures, and processes to patients/families. Follow through on the teaching phase developed. Assist in teaching patients/families knowledge and skills essential to understanding and coping with illness.
  • Assess patient/family level of understanding and document on medical records.
  • Communicate and interact with patients/families in a way that is perceived as positive and supportive.
  • Maintain cost containment effectively:
    • Prudent use of supplies and equipment
    • Appropriate charging of supplies
Daily Coordination of Patient Flow:
  1. Review appointment schedules: monitor working out of appointment schedules and report any problems to the supervisor.
  2. Prepare monthly and daily schedules of Medical Assistants.
  3. Oversee documentation in medical records and charting and log areas.
Direct Patient Care:
  1. Appropriately triage walk-in patients.
  2. Assist with special and emergency procedures.
Maintain Professional Responsibilities to Enhance Personal Growth:
  1. Understand and function within the scope of practice.
  2. Keep all certifications current.
  3. Plan for personal change and growth based on evaluation and feedback.
  4. Participate in setting measurable performance goals.
  5. With help, acquire knowledge or experience to meet goals.
