Education and Employment Specialist, Supervised Release Program

We are seeking an Education and Employment Specialist for the Supervised Release Program (SRP) in Brooklyn, New York. This role will assist participants in accessing educational and professional development opportunities, leveraging knowledge of the public university system, certificate programs, and state licensure requirements.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree, two years of experience helping people access employment and/or higher education, and knowledge of how to navigate individual, institutional, and systemic barriers presented by background checks. They will also be detail-oriented, with strong organizational and time management skills, and able to work effectively and independently as part of a highly interdependent team.
Responsibilities include:
- Working with participants and case managers to understand employment and education needs and goals;
- Providing accurate, up-to-date information, guidance, and support to participants seeking career opportunities;
- Developing, organizing, and facilitating workshops on resume strengthening, interview skills, and overcoming barriers to employment due to conviction history;
- Providing training to direct practice staff on supporting participants' attainment of employment and education needs and goals;
- Developing and maintaining relationships with local college access service providers and colleges to build knowledge about college access programs and facilitate warm hand-offs;
- Coordinating onsite workshops and presentations for partners to connect directly with direct practice staff and participants at BJI sites;
- Working collaboratively with the case management team to maintain accurate and timely data entry and case documentation;
- Responsible for consistent and effective cross-team communication and collaboration;
- Collecting and maintaining secure storage of hard copy and electronic documents containing sensitive participant information;
- Participating in designated trainings upon hire;
- Attending project events, community events, and meetings after hours, as needed.
