Job Summary:

The Department of Orthopedics at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) or Physician Assistant (PA-C) to join their team of board-certified surgeons and Advanced Practice Providers.

The Orthopedics team at HUP provides care to patients undergoing elective joint repair or replacement surgery, limb optimization procedures, and surgical resections for complex cancers.

This unique role will not only assist on the inpatient service but will also help to see new consults directed towards the Orthopedics team from the Emergency Department and inpatient services, as well as perform bedside orthopedic procedures when indicated.

As an NP/PA on this service, you will be part of a high-functioning inter-professional team responsible for the management of complex and critically ill surgical patients.

Responsibilities:
  • Inpatient management and clinical decision-making
  • Care coordination and evaluating and managing consults
  • Performing procedures according to credentialing
  • Complex discharge planning and transitions in care
  • Team collaboration and education of patients, family, and staff
  • Participating in research and ensuring regulatory compliance
  • Documenting care according to standards and prescribing in accordance with the collaborative agreement and State regulations

The successful candidate will provide quality care across the continuum in collaboration with physicians, Advanced Practice Providers, nursing staff, and other members of the care team.

They will be expected to manage patient care autonomously within the scope of their professional practice.

In addition to clinical responsibilities, the role involves participation in the Department's Quality Improvement initiatives and Unit-Based Clinical Leadership (UBCL).

Opportunities for professional growth and development are available through research, lecturing, publications, and involvement with departmental and hospital projects and committees.

Credentials:
  • ACLS (for providers in the acute care setting) required
  • BLS/CPR, as a healthcare provider, as per the American Heart Association (for providers in the ambulatory setting) required
  • Certified Acute Care Nurse Practitioner PA (required) or Masters Physician Assistant (required)
  • Prescriptive Authority (required)
  • Registered Nurse - PA (required)
Education or Equivalent Experience:
  • Master of Arts or Science (required)
Education Specialization:
  • Master's Degree or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in Nursing

The CRNP must be reviewed by the Credentials Committee and approved by the Medical Board.

All ACNPs and PA-C's function under the guidelines designed by the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center medical staff guidelines and are credentialed through that body.

The CRNP or PA hired will be held accountable through a formal job description, the delineation of privileges, and their agreement with their collaborating/supervising physician who has initiated a Collaborative Practice Agreement.
