Job Summary

The Activities Instructor is a key member of our team at The Kelberman Center, responsible for developing and implementing engaging recreational activities for individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities. This role requires a passion for creating inclusive and fun experiences that promote socialization, skill-building, and community integration.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and lead recreational activities, such as sports, games, arts and crafts, and outdoor adventures, tailored to the needs and interests of our participants.
  • Collaborate with the camp administrative team to plan and implement activities that promote socialization, communication, and life skills.
  • Supervise and support camp counselors in activity implementation, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for all participants.
  • Maintain accurate records of activity planning, implementation, and evaluation, as well as participant progress and feedback.
  • Participate in staff training and professional development to enhance knowledge and skills in recreational therapy and autism support.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; degree in recreation, education, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum one year of experience in recreational therapy, camp counseling, or related field.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
  • Ability to lift and assist individuals, as well as meet physical demands of the job.
  • Valid NYS driver's license required.
Work Environment

The Activities Instructor will work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a team of dedicated professionals. The work environment is moderate, with minimal risk of chemicals used in cleaning. The job requires exposure to blood, body fluids, and other bodily substances, as well as unpredictable individuals and situations.

Physical and Mental Demands

The Activities Instructor must be able to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods, as well as lift up to 60 pounds. The role requires fluency in the English language and the ability to handle stressful and unpredictable situations.
