ROLE DESCRIPTION
As a Psychological Services Specialist (PSS) within the Department of Corrections, your primary responsibility will be to independently deliver psychological services and facilitate group therapy sessions for inmates at your designated facility. This role is crucial in addressing the mental health and emotional needs of individuals during their time of incarceration with the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections.

Your duties will include conducting individual assessments and selecting suitable evaluation tools to gauge cognitive abilities, personality traits, special skills, and levels of achievement. You will also coordinate with professional staff to ensure that cases requiring specialized mental health support are referred for counseling, psychological, psychiatric, and medical interventions. Additionally, you will be tasked with drafting psychological reports for classification, clinical interview outcomes, parole evaluations, psychological updates, and other necessary documentation. Collaboration with the Licensed Psychologist Manager will be essential in developing innovative therapeutic educational programs, as well as providing initial crisis intervention for inmates until further professional assistance is arranged.

WORK SCHEDULE AND ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
  • Full-time position (37.5-hour work week)
  • Standard working hours are from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday to Friday, with a 30-minute lunch break.
  • This role qualifies for comprehensive retirement benefits at ages 50 or 55.
  • Salary: Initial salary may be fixed; however, additional compensation may be available for candidates who hold or acquire licensure as a Social Worker, Clinical Social Worker, or Professional Counselor from the Pennsylvania State Board of Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists, and Professional Counselors. Documentation must be presented during the interview for salary consideration.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
    Minimum Experience and Training:
  • Two years as a Psychological Services Associate in Corrections; or
  • A Master's degree in psychology or a closely related discipline with at least fifteen graduate-level credits in psychology, accompanied by two years of supervised experience in the field of psychology under a licensed psychologist.
    Other Requirements:
  • Successful completion of foundational training in Elizabethtown, PA is mandatory.
