Position Overview
This role is designed to assist both students and educators in achieving specified educational objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide support to students, teachers, and other staff as needed.
- Assist students with personal care tasks such as toileting and feeding, as well as other special requirements.
- Administer, evaluate, and document academic assessments as directed by the teacher.
- Maintain and operate classroom equipment utilized for instructional purposes.
- Distribute and collect educational materials, including workbooks and papers.
- Supervise students during safety drills, assemblies, recreational periods, and field trips.
- Review student notebooks, correct assignments, and oversee testing and make-up work as assigned.
- Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning objectives and skills.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures relevant to the role.
- Cultivate and sustain respectful and productive relationships within the educational environment.
- Capable of lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Demonstrate mobility sufficient to perform job duties safely.
- Participate in mandatory training sessions.
- Carry out additional tasks as assigned by the supervising educator or school administrator.
Employment Conditions:

- Willingness to undergo a criminal background check and drug screening is essential.
- Acknowledgment of the at-will nature of employment is necessary.
Qualifications:
- Must meet the Highly Qualified Status as per ESSA guidelines, which includes:
- Holding an associate's degree or higher;
- Completing two years of higher education coursework;
- Passing a competency test in reading, writing, and mathematics.
- A minimum of two years of experience working with children is required.
- Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills are essential.
Clearances Required:
- Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance
- Pre-employment physical examination and TB test.
Work Schedule:
This position entails a 35-hour work week over a ten-month period, with hours and salary determined by the Board.
Benefits:
Eligible employees may access voluntary health, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance options. Participation in the State of Tennessee's 401(k) retirement plan is mandatory, with a minimum contribution of 5% of gross pay, matched by the School System up to 5%. Regular full-time employees may also accrue sick leave.
