The Department of Pathology at The University of Iowa is seeking a skilled Clinical Technician II to join our team. This full-time position involves operating and maintaining specialized medical equipment, collecting whole blood, and screening blood donors for eligibility.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Screening prospective whole blood and apheresis donors and performing physical examinations using standard interview forms and computer programs.
  • Collecting donor samples for laboratory analysis and drawing pretest, retest, and other blood samples as assigned.
  • Performing donor phlebotomy and drawing whole blood units while maintaining aseptic technique.
  • Recording keeping and data collection using manual and computer methods.
  • Performing quality control of equipment and reporting malfunctions to a Donor Center Nurse or Supervisor.

Requirements include two years of healthcare experience involving direct patient care, including use of specialized medical equipment, or a combination of related education and experience. Public contact experience with excellent customer service skills is also required.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated ability to perform phlebotomy, operate and maintain specialized medical equipment, and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to collect data and maintain accurate records is also essential.
