Medical Laboratory Technician

Job Summary:
The University of Iowa is seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Technician to join our team in the Stead Family Department of Pediatrics. As a Medical Laboratory Technician, you will play a critical role in the diagnosis and treatment of genetic disorders and cancers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform high complexity testing on clinical biological specimens
- Manage time based on established priorities
- Document and maintain accurate and legible records
- Perform routine quality control, maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of laboratory instruments
- Evaluate quality control results and initiate corrective action when necessary
- Maintain inventory and order supplies as needed
- Perform a variety of cytogenetic procedures, including cell culture and harvest, slide preparation, and DNA extraction
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in a chemical, biological, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology program from an accredited institution
- Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or categorical/specialist certification in the appropriate laboratory discipline
- Experience with project coordination, time management, decision making, and self-direction in biology, chemistry, or allied health
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
