Job Summary:

The University of Iowa is seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Technician to join our team in the Stead Family Department of Pediatrics. As a Medical Laboratory Technician, you will play a critical role in the diagnosis and treatment of genetic disorders and cancers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform high complexity testing on clinical biological specimens
  • Manage time based on established priorities
  • Document and maintain accurate and legible records
  • Perform routine quality control, maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of laboratory instruments
  • Evaluate quality control results and initiate corrective action when necessary
  • Maintain inventory and order supplies as needed
  • Perform a variety of cytogenetic procedures, including cell culture and harvest, slide preparation, and DNA extraction

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a chemical, biological, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology program from an accredited institution
  • Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or categorical/specialist certification in the appropriate laboratory discipline
  • Experience with project coordination, time management, decision making, and self-direction in biology, chemistry, or allied health
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
