Qualifications: Candidates must be at least 18 years old and possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Preferred qualifications include college coursework or relevant experience in recreation, youth services, or education. Enthusiasm, creativity, and a passion for working with children are essential. A successful background check (BCI/FBI) is required, along with certifications in CPR/First Aid, Child Abuse Prevention, and Communicable Diseases.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the Site Director and Tutors in executing the Afterschool 21st Century program.
- Support student academic achievement and foster effective communication with students, parents, and school personnel.
- Lead enrichment and recreational activities, oversee meal preparation, and supervise students.
- Availability is required Monday through Friday from 2:30 PM to 6:30 PM, totaling approximately 17-20 hours weekly, with potential evening and weekend commitments for special events.
General Duties Include:
- Work with students individually or in small groups to implement program activities focused on enrichment, social skills, life skills, and character education.
- Collaborate with the Site Director and tutors to integrate academic support into all program activities.
- Model and reinforce positive character and social skills in a safe and supportive environment.
- Supervise all program participants and assist with snacks and transitions between activities.
- Ensure the safe arrival and departure of students.
- Communicate effectively with parents, school staff, and project partners to provide support and services.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Engage positively and courteously with children, staff, and parents.
- Attend to the individual needs of children.
- Adhere to YMCA dress code and wear identification badges.
- Follow YMCA and TPS policies and procedures.
- Understand and comply with child care licensing regulations.
- Serve as a positive role model for children.
- Promote the values of honesty, caring, responsibility, and respect.
- Assist with accommodations for children with special needs.
- Maintain a clean and organized facility.
- Participate in meetings and training sessions as required.
- Foster good communication and teamwork with supervisors and colleagues.
- Perform any additional duties as assigned in the absence of the Site Director.
