Job Summary

This position is for a Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic, part of the Nevada Air National Guard. The role is located in the Air National Guard, Logistics Readiness Squadron, Vehicle Management Flight.

Key Responsibilities
  • Repair, adjust, overhaul, and modify heavy mobile equipment, including engines, transmissions, and hydraulic systems.
  • Inspect and test major systems, including gasoline, diesel, electric, and hybrid engines, as well as automatic and manual transmissions.
  • Analyze malfunctions and determine the cause of mechanical failure using visual and auditory checks, computer-controlled test equipment, and diagnostic tools.
  • Develop and improvise methods to repair complex systems, modify parts to fit, and make design modifications to meet special requirements.
  • Perform body repair and corrosion control, refinish and repaint surfaces as required, and repair and replace body parts, locks, glass, and other components.
  • Prepare and submit maintenance work orders, maintain shop stock and special level parts, and operate and maintain shop equipment.
  • Participate as an OJT Instructor in the vehicle maintenance area, conducting instructional classes on methods and procedures of operation and maintenance.
  • Assist in conducting the local occupational safety and health training program and comply with federal, state, and local environmental laws and regulations.
Requirements
  • Must have experience or training in diagnosing, repairing, overhauling, and modifying complex vehicles, equipment, and systems.
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of diagnostic equipment and be able to apply independent judgment in determining methods and techniques required to solve complex maintenance and repair problems.
  • Must be able to test, inspect, and evaluate the work performed on heavy mobile vehicles, equipment, and systems.

No specific education requirement is necessary for this position. The applicant's record of experience and/or training must show possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to fully perform the duties of the position.
