Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Assembler II to join our team at Powell Industries. As a key member of our assembly team, you will be responsible for building and assembling mechanical components for Switchgear and/or Breaker units according to engineering drawings and customer specifications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build and assemble mechanical components using master copy, spec sheet, front elevation, and WO files.
  • Perform maintenance and proper use of tools.
  • Perform in-process inspections to ensure quality by following standard work instructions and identifying any potential risks to product quality.
  • Perform all ship prep functions, including splitting gear.
  • Assist in Root Cause Analysis on engineering changes and correct discrepancies.
  • Assist a small team of employees to complete specific tasks assigned by lead assembler and/or supervisor.
  • Perform mechanical adjustments for switchgear.
  • Promote a safety culture and attend all safety meetings.
  • Ensure that work areas remain clean and well-organized.
Requirements
  • Minimum education level of a High School Diploma or General Education Equivalent Diploma is preferred.
  • 2-4 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read a tape measure (including conversions from fraction to decimal and conversely from decimal to fraction and metric to imperial).
  • Must have a basic command of the English language, both written and verbal.
  • Basic knowledge of operating a desktop computer.
  • Safely use a variety of hand/power tools.
  • Lift up to 50lbs using proper lifting techniques.
Preferred Qualifications
  • BASIC MES system knowledge, Oracle preferred.
  • Prior experience in building or repairing mechanical components.
Skills and Abilities
  • Read and understand spec sheets and follow proper use of hardware by spec requirements.
  • Able to read and understand single and three-line drawings, including symbols.
  • Able to read and have an understanding of Engineering Change Orders.
  • Ability to identify part discrepancies and properly write HFDs for corrections.
  • Knowledge of mechanical drawings and designs.
  • Ability to follow direction from Senior Assemblers and Lead Assemblers.
  • Effectively demonstrates on-time delivery and the ability to stay focused on goals and responsibilities.
  • Self-starter with ability to take on multiple tasks with a drive to succeed.
  • Challenges the status quo; looks for better or more efficient ways to get results.
