Data Governance Leadership Role

The VP of Medical Diversity and Governance will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing data and AI governance frameworks across AmTrust Financial.

This role will focus on ensuring data quality, integrity, and compliance with regulations and internal policies, as well as promoting ethical AI usage within AmTrust processes and decision-making systems.

You will work closely with stakeholders across different business units and departments, including Legal, IT, risk management, audit, compliance, pricing, underwriting, and claims, to integrate governance policies that align with AmTrust data & AI strategy.

Prior experience in data governance leadership roles within financial institutions or insurance is required, along with a strong process-oriented approach to managing and governing large-scale data environments and AI initiatives.

Governance Framework Development:

Design, develop, and maintain a comprehensive data and AI governance framework that aligns with the company's overall business strategy.

Establish policies, standards, and guidelines for data management and AI usage to ensure compliance with industry regulations.

Compliance and Risk Management:

Ensure the company's data handling and AI practices comply with relevant laws and regulations, including data privacy and security, governing insurance and financial institutions.

Partner with audit, compliance, legal, and risk management teams to conduct independent assessments, track regulatory changes, and implement appropriate governance controls.

Data Quality and Integrity:

Establish and enforce data quality standards across all data sources used within the organization.

Monitor, assess, and enhance the quality, accuracy, and consistency of data across departments.

Drive initiatives for data cleansing, validation, and lifecycle management to improve operational efficiencies.

AI Governance and Ethics:

Collaborate with data science, legal, compliance, and IT teams to ensure AI models/systems are governed effectively, adhering to established ethical frameworks.

Implement model validation, testing, and monitoring processes to reduce biases and ensure accurate and fair decision-making.

Evaluate AI solutions and provide recommendations on their governance requirements based on their impact on business operations.

Lead cross-functional working groups to define data and AI governance objectives, policies, and initiatives.

Provide guidance and training to business units on the importance of data governance and the ethical use of AI in decision-making processes.

Data Stewardship and Ownership:

Define roles and responsibilities for data stewards across the organization, ensuring accountability for data ownership and stewardship.

Orchestrate and monitor the creation and maintenance of a data catalog, glossary, and lineage tracking to improve transparency and traceability of data assets.

Identify and recommend governance technology solutions for data cataloging, AI model monitoring, and data quality management.

Work with IT and data architecture teams to ensure the technology landscape supports governance objectives, including AI model lifecycle management tools.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in data governance, data management within the insurance or financial services industry.
  • Strong experience with regulatory compliance in financial institutions (insurance-specific experience is a plus).
  • Proven experience implementing and managing data governance frameworks, processes, and tools in large, complex organizations.
  • Experience working with AI technologies and governance of AI models in operational environments is an advantage.
  • In-depth knowledge of data governance frameworks, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Familiarity with AI ethics, machine learning governance, and model risk management.
  • Strong understanding of insurance data types (e.g., claims, policy, underwriting) and financial services regulatory requirements.
  • Familiarity with data governance tools and data quality software.
