Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Mechanic to join our team at Cuyahoga Community College. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing duties associated with the repair and maintenance of facilities and equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on buildings and equipment, including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, welding, and mechanical tasks.
  • Assist in the installation of mechanical equipment and perform repairs on plant equipment, such as vehicles, motors, pumps, mowers, tractors, refrigeration, and heating equipment.
  • May perform duties involved in roofing, plastering, tile, glass, metal working, welding, masonry, and painting.
  • Install and repair hardware, repair furniture, utility lines, and related fittings, and install secondary electrical lines.
  • Operate and maintain HVAC systems, including monitoring, analyzing, and adjusting automated and/or computer-controlled systems.
  • Direct Maintenance Mechanic Helpers or Yard Maintenance Mechanic Helpers who assist in the completion of projects.
  • Meet all job safety requirements and applicable OSHA safety standards.
  • Demonstrate regular attendance and access and utilize College-prescribed software programs.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Five (5) years of work experience in a building maintenance environment as a commercial/industrial Maintenance Mechanic – OR – a completed vocational or apprenticeship program.
  • Knowledge of all types of tools in the trade.
  • Ability to read and follow detailed work and safety instructions.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Skills in keyboarding, basic math, and grammar, and basic or standard word processing and/or spreadsheet applications.
  • Proficiency with an email software package and the Internet.
  • Valid Ohio Driver's license.
  • Must be able to meet College insurability requirements.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have sensitivity to respond appropriately to the needs of a diverse population.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in a job-related field.
  • Ability to direct a small work crew.
  • Experience with electronic work order system.
  • Understanding/experience with quality programs and initiatives.
  • Trade licensure or certification.
  • LTO (Lift-Truck-Operator) license.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands

The successful candidate must be able to occasionally sit, climb, or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, taste, and be able to frequently stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or be able to lift up to 50 pounds without having color. Must be able to occasionally work in wet or humid conditions, work in high precarious places, work with fumes or airborne particles, toxics, or caustic chemicals, work in extreme cold and heat (non-weather), and work with risk of electrical shock, vibration, and bio-hazards. Must be able to regularly work near moving mechanical parts and in outdoor weather conditions. Must be able to work in an environment with a loud noise level.
