Position Overview
The EHS Specialist III plays a crucial role in overseeing the daily environmental, health, and safety operations across multiple Generac facilities. This position involves the implementation of workplace practices and training initiatives in collaboration with safety management, operational leadership, and employees, aimed at fostering effective and sustainable safety programs. Responsibilities include executing the organization's safety protocols, ensuring compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and local regulations, and maintaining a secure and healthy work environment.
Key Responsibilities
Regulatory Compliance
- Act as the primary subject matter expert for hazardous waste, leading initiatives to minimize waste and establish recycling programs.
- Oversee the planning, training, inspections, reporting, and recordkeeping for all environmental and safety compliance initiatives.
- Manage third-party vendor portals effectively.
- Deliver impactful environmental, health, and safety leadership to facility personnel.
- Organize and participate in weekly safety toolbox talks and monthly Safety Committee meetings.
- Champion the EHS Drive to Zero programs within the facility.
- Conduct facility audits and field observations to ensure adherence to best practices and compliance, preparing reports with actionable recommendations.
- Perform monthly inspections of hazardous waste accumulation and chemical storage areas.
- Lead Job Safety Analysis (JHA) and develop Site-Specific Safety Plans, implementing necessary controls and countermeasures.
- Recommend and implement risk mitigation strategies, including ergonomics, safe lifting practices, electrical safety, and fall protection.
- Monitor employee use of safety equipment and procedures, providing training as necessary.
- Investigate incidents to identify root causes and collaborate with the EHS Manager on corrective actions.
- Support facility EHS Specialists with hazard assessments as a multi-site expert.
- Collaborate with EHS Manager, HR, Operations, and Workers' Compensation representatives regarding employee health claims.
- Lead the development of emergency action plans.
Education
Degree in occupational safety, engineering, or a related science field; or equivalent experience.
Certifications
Ability to obtain OSHA 30 card and CPR/First Aid Certification within 30 days; qualification for CSP (Certified Safety Professional) certification.
Experience
4 to 6 years of experience in coaching and implementing occupational safety and environmental programs.
Knowledge and Skills
Strong understanding of OSHA, EPA, DOT, and local regulations; proven knowledge of safety equipment and standards; ability to influence change across various organizational functions; excellent communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Education
Bachelor's degree in Environmental, Health and Safety, engineering, or a related field.
Certifications
Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), or similar certifications.
Experience
Experience with safety-related programs such as ISO or VPP.
Knowledge and Skills
Familiarity with 40 CFR regulations including RCRA, CAA, CWA, OPA, EPCRA, TSCA.
Physical Requirements
The role requires regular standing, walking, and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted. The work environment may involve exposure to seasonal temperature variations and manufacturing by-products. Compliance with PPE requirements is mandatory.
