Position Overview:
A well-established, collaborative organization in the multi-family housing sector is seeking a dedicated Property Accountant to join its headquarters team.
The successful candidate will possess exceptional communication, organizational, and accounting capabilities, enjoy mentoring others, and be committed to advancing their career in accounting and financial management.
Key Responsibilities:
Support the Controller, Accounting Manager, and Property Management teams by ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data produced at the properties.
Oversee the timely delivery of financial reports by managing critical accounting timelines and training property team members on essential accounting processes.
Specific Duties:
Property Accountant:
- Prepare monthly financial statements for assigned properties, including the interpretation and analysis of financial reports, along with the reconciliation of necessary balance sheet accounts.
- Conduct various accounting tasks, such as bank reconciliations, management fee calculations, and journal entries.
- Review accounts payable for accuracy, coding, and authorization.
- Assist the Accounting Manager and Controller with special transactions, including property acquisitions, dispositions, and refinancing.
- Investigate and resolve all reconciling items related to property cash accounts.
- Support external auditors during year-end audits for selected properties.
- Meet all internal and external reporting deadlines.
- Collaborate with the operations team on annual budget forecasts.
- Perform monthly audits and reconciliations of revenue, accounts receivable, subsidy billing, and security deposits.
- Ensure adherence to established accounting policies and procedures.
- Contribute to various projects within the accounting department.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
- At least 2 years of experience in real estate or property management.
Required Skills:
- Ability to work independently and as an integral member of the accounting team.
- Excellent organizational skills with a strong focus on accuracy and detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with effective interpersonal abilities.
- Intermediate proficiency in Excel, as well as proficiency in Word and Outlook.
- Experience with Yardi software is a significant advantage.
