POSITION OVERVIEW


The Lead Project Accountant plays a crucial role in overseeing all aspects of the construction job costing process. This includes the categorization, documentation, analysis, and monitoring of expenses and billings associated with significant construction initiatives, alongside several smaller, less intricate projects.

This position ensures vendor compliance to effectively manage project risks.

Assigned to a major construction endeavor, this role collaborates closely with the Project Manager to guarantee timely and precise accounting and risk management throughout the project lifecycle.


Key Responsibilities:
1. Compile, prepare, and analyze monthly project billings in accordance with contract stipulations for more complex accounts.

2. Monitor budgets and commitments, process subcontractor and vendor invoices, draft owner invoices, and address any arising issues.

3. Collaborate with the project manager and team members to assess the overall financial health of the job.

4. Participate in and prepare for progress and division meetings.

5. Generate monthly reports with current estimates, identifying potential risks or opportunities.

6. Conduct special analyses as necessary.

7. Mentor and provide training to less-experienced Project Accountants.

Qualifications for Success:
- Strong accounting knowledge

- Exceptional organizational skills with a keen attention to detail

- Proficient written and verbal communication skills; capable of imparting knowledge to junior staff

- Ability to meet tight deadlines and perform under pressure

- Strong analytical skills to resolve complex issues

- Capacity to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion


- Proficient in computer applications with intermediate to expert skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, etc.

- Flexibility to adapt in a rapidly changing environment

- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent preferred

- 5+ years of experience in Project Accounting preferred

- Experience in the construction industry preferred
