Research Specialist

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Research Specialist to join our team at the University of California, San Francisco. The successful candidate will contribute to new and ongoing projects in the Sil lab, focusing on the basic biology of fungal pathogens and their interaction with innate immune cells.
Key Responsibilities:- Generate genetic tools and conduct microbiology and molecular biology techniques, including fungal and macrophage manipulation, cloning, protein purification, and biochemical assays.
- Assist with managing day-to-day lab operations and perform general lab duties.
- Participate in procurement of funds and contribute to the development of new ideas and projects.
- Collaborate with the research team to achieve project goals and objectives.
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal communication skills (verbal and written).
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a research team.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, coordinate work tasks with others, and meet multiple deadlines.
- Must have (or be in process of obtaining) a bachelor's degree (or equivalent degree) or four years of research experience to be appointed at the Junior rank.
- Must have (or be in process of obtaining) a master's degree or a baccalaureate degree with three or more years of research experience to be appointed at the Assistant rank.
- Must have (or be in process of obtaining) a master's degree (or equivalent degree) or five to ten years of research experience to be appointed at the Associate rank.
- Must have (or be in process of obtaining) a terminal degree (or equivalent degree) or at least ten or more years of research experience to be appointed at the Full rank.
- Prior experience with handling pathogenic microbes, aseptic techniques.
- Prior experience in the design and assembly of DNA constructs.
- Prior experience in molecular genetics and biology (i.e. gene knockouts, epitope tagging, immunoprecipitation, protein-protein interactions).
- Prior experience with RNAseq.
- Prior experience with murine macrophage differentiation and infection.
- Prior experience working with fungi.
We offer a competitive salary range of $51,300-$181,800, depending on experience. The successful candidate will also have opportunities for independent research, mentorship of other trainees, and scientific writing.
