The Surgical Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the surgeon during surgical interventions, ensuring that procedures are conducted efficiently and safely.
Key Responsibilities:
A. Educational Background and Skills
1. (RN only) Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program; a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred.
2. (RN/LPN only) A valid nursing license in Louisiana is required.
B. Professional Experience
A minimum of three years of experience in an Operating Room setting is preferred.
C. Certifications and Licenses
1. Current certification as a Certified Nurse of the Operating Room (CNOR) or as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) is preferred.
2. Completion of an accredited first assisting course is mandatory, with certification as a Certified Registered Nurse First Assistant (CRNFA) or Certified First Assistant (CFA) being preferred.
3. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required, while Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification is preferred.
