Job Summary:

As a Surgical Technologist Certified at CHRISTUS Health, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of the Operating Room. Your expertise will be essential in preparing and caring for pre-operative patients, maintaining aseptic techniques, and providing comfort and support to patients undergoing surgery. You will work closely with the surgical team to ensure that all necessary equipment and supplies are available and that the operating room is properly set up for each procedure.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in preparing and caring for pre-operative patients, including preparing patient skin for surgery and maintaining aseptic techniques.
  • Work effectively as a member of the surgical team to ensure that all necessary equipment and supplies are available and that the operating room is properly set up for each procedure.
  • Provide comfort and support to patients undergoing surgery, demonstrating sensitivity to patient care and privacy.
  • Transport patients to and from the Operating Room suite and position patients according to the type of surgery.
  • Identify and care for biological specimens and prepare the Operating Room by setting up tables, instruments, and supplies according to type of case.
  • Meet expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
  • Under the direction of a professional nurse, perform all processes that relate to the delivery of direct patient care and assistance care in the OR prior to and during any surgical procedure.
  • Establish and maintain the sterile field, pass instruments, and sutures to the physician, and assist as directed by the physician.
  • Use the physician preference card as a beginning point when pulling cases and setting up the OR.
  • Ensure that preference cards are kept up to date and as complete as possible.
  • Work effectively as a member of the team caring for the patient.
  • Cooperate in team planning and execution.
  • Maintain a safe environment by always implementing technical and aseptic practices.
  • Demonstrate clinical expertise in the use and care of all surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment.
  • Adhere to Universal Barrier Precautions for both patient and own safety in all patient care situations.
  • Demonstrate competence to monitor and control the surgical environment. Maintain proper traffic control, dress codes, and adherence to OR sanitation policies and procedures.
  • Familiar with facility policy and procedure regarding decontamination, processing, and sterilization of all instruments and supplies that are processed within the facility.
  • Demonstrate competence to perform assigned patient care responsibilities in a manner that meets the population-specific and developmental needs of patients served by the department.
  • Appropriately adapt assigned patient assessment, treatment and/or care methods to accommodate the unique physical, psychosocial, cultural, age-specific, and other developmental needs of each patient served.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Completion of the Surgical Technology program or an accredited LVN/LPN program is required.
