SUMMARY

The Production Supervisor is responsible for developing, coordinating, and overseeing work assignments of team members to ensure safety, quality, delivery, and cost objectives are met in the designated area. The role focuses on maintaining and enhancing production output while improving productivity through Lean Manufacturing methodologies. Regular documentation, tracking, and communication of SQDC goals are essential in daily production and management meetings.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Key responsibilities include:

  • Utilizing Kewaunee's scheduling system to identify necessary parts and assemblies for fulfilling customer orders.
  • Managing parts and supplies relevant to the assigned area.
  • Addressing inquiries from team members regarding production processes or equipment operations.
  • Monitoring and facilitating the flow of materials within the production area, collaborating closely with production planning on shortages.
  • Working in conjunction with Production Control, Purchasing, and Project Management to expedite parts and sub-assemblies.
  • Notifying maintenance personnel of equipment issues through the paperwork order system.
  • Operating machinery as needed to cover for absent associates.
  • Maintaining production workflow and records to ensure compliance with daily schedules.
  • Training team members on safety, quality, and delivery standards.
  • Inspecting products for processing defects.
  • Recommending improvements for production methods, equipment performance, product quality, and operational safety.
  • Resolving work-related issues promptly with team members.
  • Motivating associates to achieve production goals.
  • Collaborating with supervisors on corrective actions for issue resolution.
  • Setting up machines and equipment as required.
  • Performing supervisory activities excluding hiring, discipline, and termination.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Production Supervisor serves as the frontline leader for associates in the assigned department, executing responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws. This includes interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; and conducting performance evaluations. The supervisor collaborates with management to recommend performance enhancements, rewards, and disciplinary actions, while addressing complaints and resolving issues promptly.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

A one-year certificate from a college or technical school; or three to six months of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Proficiency with SYTELINE for order tracking and specification research prior to production is essential. Skills in computer usage, shop mathematics, and blueprint reading are required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, product drawings, operating instructions, and procedure manuals. Proficient in writing routine reports and correspondence, and capable of effectively communicating before groups of customers or associates.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to perform basic mathematical operations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in various units of measure. Competence in computing rates, ratios, and percentages, as well as interpreting bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and manage a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization. Capable of interpreting diverse instructions presented in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
