Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Grossing Technician II to join our team at Quest Diagnostics. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for performing surgical gross examinations of small, uncomplicated specimens, as well as some more complicated specimens under direct and indirect supervision.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare surgical specimens for histologic processing, ensuring accurate and timely completion of tasks.
  • Accurately describe gross anatomic features of routine, uncomplicated surgical specimens, including lesions, markings, and sutures.
  • Perform grossing of moderate to high complex/complicated specimens under direct and indirect supervision, as applicable to training and experience.
  • Escalate non-routine, complicated surgical specimens to Pathologist Assistants as needed.
  • Record measurements, weight, volume, and any abnormal findings as applicable.
  • Dissect surgical specimens and prepare tissues for histologic processing.
  • Perform basic Histology functions, including embedding, microtomy, routine and special stains, and frozen sectioning, as trained.
  • Complete all associated paperwork, including workload recording and PM/temperature charts.
  • Follow laboratory procedures for job-related responsibilities and interact directly with pathologists regarding gross dissection/description activities.
  • Identify and correct problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, federal, CLIA, and CAP regulations.
Requirements
  • Meets all requirements as outlined in corporate Minimum Qualifications for Personnel Performing Tissue Gross Examinations SOP and 1988 CLIA CFR.
  • Preferred: 3 years of histology and/or grossing experience.
  • Physical and mental requirements include lifting and carrying objects, standing and working at the bench for long periods, frequent walking and/or standing, and manual dexterity.
