Job Summary

The Senior Histotechnologist is a specialist in the histopathology laboratory, responsible for resolving escalated issues and tasks. This role provides support to the department in quality control, troubleshooting, customer support, instrument and equipment maintenance, staff training, and special projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform all duties/responsibilities of a Histotechnologist II.
  • Serve as a technical specialist in routine histopathology, special stains, or IHC areas.
  • Provide technical instructions, training, and guidance to technicians/technologists, students, and lab assistants.
  • Assist supervisor in maintaining and troubleshooting equipment/instrumentation.
  • Manage validation and/or verification of control material, reagents, and antibodies.
  • Participate in equipment/method validation/verification.
  • Manage quality assurance/quality control functions.
  • Investigate unacceptable results.
  • May lead special projects.
  • Participate in proficiency testing surveys.
  • Perform specimen preparation on non-gynecological specimens.
  • Adhere to laboratory's QC policies and document all QC activities.
  • Differentiate acceptable and unacceptable processing, embedding, cutting, and staining of tissue specimens.
  • Identify problems affecting test performance or reporting of test results and resolve or report to supervisor.
  • Assist supervisor with departmental training, competency assessments, and continuing education.
  • Participate in development of policies/procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with CLIA, CAP, federal, and local regulations.
  • Maintain a clean and well-organized work area.
Requirements
  • 3 years histopathology experience within a Quest Diagnostics, AmeriPath, or Dermpath Diagnostics laboratory.
  • Preferred: 6 years of histopathology experience, with 3 years in IHC or surgical pathology within a Quest Diagnostics, AmeriPath, or Dermpath Diagnostics laboratory.
  • Meet all requirements as outlined in corporate Minimum Qualifications for Histotechnician SOP.
  • Meet all requirements as outlined in corporate Minimum Qualifications for Personnel Performing Immunohistochemistry Testing SOP.
  • Meet all requirements as outlined in corporate Minimum Qualifications for Personnel Performing Gross Tissue Examinations SOP.
Education
  • Bachelor's Degree.
Licenses/Certifications
  • HT (ASCP).
  • HTL (ASCP).
  • Qualification in Immunohistochemistry Q(IHC).
