We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Assistive Technology Specialist to join our team at Iona University. As a key member of our Disability Services team, you will play a vital role in ensuring equal access to all programs, activities, and facilities for students with disabilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide assistive technology set up, training, and support to students with various types of disabilities.
  • Determine appropriate alternate media and assistive technologies to meet individual needs and preferences.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure effective implementation and use of assistive technologies.
  • Develop guidelines and provide technical support for access to curricula, distance education courses, student support services, web pages, and other electronic information sources.
  • Stay up-to-date with accessibility guidelines and laws, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Sections 504 and 508 of the Vocational Rehabilitation Act, and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 Level AA.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited college with a bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • At least one year of responsible experience in working with disabled students, with familiarity with determining appropriate alternate media and assistive technologies.
  • Experience working with people with disabilities, Adobe, instructional design, digital accessibility, and alternative formatting a plus.
  • Knowledge of different types of assistive technology and how they are used for accessibility purposes.
  • Ability to demonstrate various technologies and best practices for usage.
  • Ability to analyze situations, evaluate alternatives, and adopt effective courses of action.
