About the Role

Pacific Rail Services is seeking an experienced Railway Operations Specialist to join its team at the Union Pacific Houston, TX Auto Terminal. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth movement of rail equipment and facilitating the loading and unloading of trains in the rail yard.

Job Summary

The Railway Operations Specialist will be responsible for assisting the Train Engineer with the movement of rail equipment (locomotives, rail cars, tracks, etc.) within the rail yard in a safe and efficient manner. This includes maintaining an efficient and orderly rail yard by moving rail cars and freeing rail tracks for incoming rail traffic.

Key Responsibilities
  • Equipment Movement: Assist the Train Engineer in safely and efficiently moving rail equipment within the rail yard.
  • Rail Yard Management: Maintain an organized and efficient rail yard environment by relocating rail cars and clearing tracks for incoming traffic.
  • Track Switch Management: Effectively manage rail track switches to direct rail cars to designated tracks.
  • Air Hose Management: Connect and disconnect air hoses as needed to consolidate rail cars efficiently.
  • Leadership and Communication: Lead job briefings with supervisors and crew members prior to work commencement and maintain clear communication with the Train Engineer/Operator and other crew members while operating locomotives.
Requirements

To be considered for this role, applicants must possess:

  • A valid driver's license.
  • Prior experience as a Conductor or Engineer, preferably in the railroad industry.
  • Advanced knowledge of the railroad industry gained through vocational education, apprenticeships, on-the-job training, or similar experiences.
  • The ability to pass a vision and hearing test.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to coordinate with various individuals.
Work Environment

The Railway Operations Specialist will work in an ambient outdoor environment, exposed to varying conditions such as rain, snow, ice, heat, wind, cold, and noise levels may be loud and continuous. The position requires frequent travel throughout the yard and transfer station via walking and/or driving.

Estimated Salary

The estimated annual salary for this position is $35,400-$38,160 per year, based on the company's standard compensation package and location in Houston, TX.
