Job Title: Medical Laboratory Technician

Join the Defense Health Agency Civilian Corps in Falls Church, VA, as a Medical Laboratory Technician. This role is a critical part of the healthcare team, responsible for performing a variety of clinical laboratory tests and examinations to support direct patient care.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform a wide range of clinical laboratory tests and examinations, including hematology, coagulation, chemistry, urinalysis, serology, immunoassays, Blood Bank, and microbiology.
  • Work under the general supervision of a Hospital Laboratory Supervisory Medical Technologist, providing initial guidance on areas of responsibility and priorities.
  • Operate complex semi-automated and automated equipment, performing calibration procedures, periodic operator maintenance tasks, troubleshooting procedures, and corrective actions to resolve malfunctions.
  • Interpret test results, recognizing and identifying unusual results, and referring complex problems to senior technologists or supervisors.
  • Participate in prescribed quality control procedures, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring all QC results fall within established control limits prior to releasing patient results.
  • Assist in the instruction of newly assigned civilian and military technicians, maintaining comprehensive knowledge of accreditation standards applicable to the section's operations.
Requirements:
  • Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) certification required.
  • Basic Life Saving (BLS) certificate required.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • Pass a Tier One background investigation.
  • Screening for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk.
