Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Music Instructor to join our team at The Salvation Army music school in Orange County. As a Music Instructor, you will be responsible for teaching music theory, listening skills, and practical musicianship to students of all ages.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and prepare lessons based on students' needs, aims, and abilities.
  • Acquire teaching materials and resources.
  • Teach music theory, listening skills, and practical musicianship.
  • Prepare students for practice, recitals, and performances.
  • Motivate students and encourage progress in a positive environment.
  • Attend staff meetings.
  • Communicate with parents and music school leads.
  • Plan for and/or arrange recitals and concerts for students' families and friends.
  • Be responsible for musical instruments and room while teaching.
Requirements
  • AA or BA degree in Music preferred.
  • Three years of teaching experience preferred.
  • Demonstrate practical and theoretical knowledge of music performance and teaching.
  • Communicate instrumental and vocal techniques to students in a positive learning environment.
  • Bilingual/Bi-literate English/Spanish a plus.
Working Conditions

The Music Instructor will work in a fast-paced environment and will be required to sit for long periods of time with breaks, and walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. The ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead is also required. The Music Instructor will be required to operate a computer and telephone, and will be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
