Role Summary

We are seeking a dedicated private instructor for voice, piano, guitar, drums, and other instruments at our music academy, catering to learners of all ages. The Music Educator will collaborate with the music school director to establish a teaching schedule that accommodates both children and adults.

Compensation and Schedule

This position is part-time, requiring 3-15 hours per week based on student enrollment and the instructor's availability. Compensation ranges from $30 to $36 per hour, depending on experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Designing and delivering lessons tailored to the individual needs and abilities of students.
  • Gathering necessary teaching materials and resources.
  • Instructing students in music theory, listening skills, and practical musicianship.
  • Preparing students for practice sessions, recitals, and performances.
  • Encouraging student motivation and fostering progress in a supportive environment.
  • Participating in staff meetings.
  • Maintaining communication with parents and music school leadership.
  • Organizing recitals and concerts for students' families and friends.
  • Ensuring the proper care of musical instruments and teaching space during lessons.
Work Environment

Ability to sit for extended periods with breaks, and to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist intermittently or continuously. Capability to grasp, push, and pull objects such as files and drawers, and reach overhead. Proficiency in operating a computer and telephone. Ability to lift items weighing up to 25 lbs.

Qualifications
  • EDUCATION - An AA or BA degree in Music is preferred, though equivalent experience will be considered.
  • EXPERIENCE - A minimum of three years of teaching experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of music performance and pedagogy, with the ability to convey instrumental and vocal techniques in a positive learning atmosphere.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is advantageous.
Skills and Competencies
  • Effective teaching abilities.
  • Proficiency in instrumental techniques, music theory, and music notation.
  • Completion of a criminal background check is mandatory in accordance with Protect the Mission policies.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues, and community members.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and some weekends as needed.
