Job Title: Safety Consultant

South Dakota State University is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Safety Consultant to join our team. As a key member of our Engineering Extension Department, you will play a vital role in implementing the Federal OSHA Consultation Program grant, providing expert support to businesses and industries across South Dakota.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical assistance to small and medium-sized employers to help them develop and implement effective safety and health programs.
  • Conduct on-site consultations to identify and evaluate workplace hazards, and provide recommendations for abatement.
  • Develop and deliver training programs and presentations on safety and health topics to various audiences.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to promote workplace safety and health initiatives.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Management, Health, Safety, Construction Management, Technology, or related field.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and motivational skills.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Minimum of one year of experience with OSHA General Industry and/or Construction Standards, OSHA Consultation Programs/Policies/Procedures.
  • Experience in identifying and evaluating safety hazards in the workplace.
  • Experience in abating identified safety hazards according to OSHA standards.
  • Experience as a presenter at safety seminars and/or conferences.
