Job Overview

Position Title: Construction Project Supervisor - Educational Facilities

Role Summary

This position is responsible for overseeing, assessing, and coordinating the execution and finalization of all elements related to construction, renovation, and maintenance projects assigned to the Contract Building Maintenance Department. The role includes performing procurement-related contract administrative tasks such as project advertising, specification writing, and collaborating with the Procurement Department to ensure the smooth and effective progression of related activities. Additionally, the supervisor will manage special projects as directed by the Director and provide oversight and inspection of contractor work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Examine plans, drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and inspections for the renovation, maintenance, and repair of facilities, ensuring compliance with relevant codes and technical standards.
  • Evaluate requests for proposed maintenance construction projects, advising management on their feasibility; oversee the scheduling, coordination, and acceleration of construction projects.
  • Assess maintenance construction bids from potential contractors and recommend acceptance or rejection.
  • Conduct on-site inspections of maintenance construction projects to ensure compliance with requirements, resolve contractor issues, and monitor work progress.
  • Review requisitions and payment invoices before recommending payments to contractors, ensuring adherence to plans and specifications; assess and approve delay claims for liquidated damages.
  • Prepare reports detailing the status and progress of maintenance construction projects.
  • Monitor and manage project budgets, plans, work breakdown structures, and schedules to ensure timely and cost-effective project completion.
  • Consult with project personnel, including contractors and technical experts, to address design and construction challenges and propose potential solutions.
  • Engage with school personnel to assess project needs and scope.
  • Investigate construction requests and building issues.
  • Provide technical reports, site analyses, and space assessments, making recommendations for corrective actions.
  • May offer guidance to regional support staff.
  • Adhere to and promote all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies, following applicable federal and state laws and school board policies.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of five years of experience in building construction and maintenance, including experience in preparing plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and professional construction project management experience may be considered.
  • Knowledge of building construction, renovation, and maintenance techniques and materials.
  • Ability to coordinate large-scale construction, renovation, and maintenance initiatives.
  • Ability to interpret and create building construction plans and specifications.
  • Ability to assess the urgency of construction and renovation needs and prioritize accordingly.
  • Ability to evaluate construction and renovation cost estimates and bids.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with agency officials, contractors, architects, engineers, and others.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to foster effective team collaboration.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in technical computer applications relevant to the field.
