Job Overview

Under the guidance of the Procurement Manager, the Production Planner plays a crucial role in evaluating demand, inventory levels, and production capacity to formulate the master production schedule for both CMC manufactured and subcontracted products. This position focuses on implementing efficient and cost-effective planning and inventory strategies to guarantee the availability of products while maximizing service levels for CMC's clientele.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and execute the daily, weekly, and monthly master production schedule for CMC manufactured and subcontracted products utilizing Epicor ERP.
  • Work closely with Operations to assess overall demand and capacity at CMC Work Centers, adjusting production schedules as necessary to enhance customer satisfaction.
  • Regularly evaluate and recommend adjustments to raw material inventory levels to ensure materials are available for the production schedule.
  • Monitor weekly production schedule progress, identifying challenges related to materials, equipment, or capacity that may hinder the completion of the plan, and modify future schedules accordingly.
  • Analyze production standards against actual performance and report discrepancies to the Operations Manager.
  • Establish and maintain accurate job order due dates based on available resources and constraints.
  • Keep stakeholders informed about out-of-stock materials and their effects on finished goods availability.
  • Update lead times for finished goods in the ERP system weekly to ensure precise ATP forecasting.
  • Provide and monitor lead times and expected completion dates for large or special customer orders, ensuring stakeholders are updated on any changes.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies in inventory levels and cycle counts at CMC and subcontract supplier warehouses, suggesting process improvements to prevent future issues.
  • Evaluate the impact of material or capacity shortages on the production schedule and communicate potential issues affecting inventory, on-time delivery, and revenue.
  • Review ERP suggestions and generate purchase orders for CMC outsource vendors.
  • Coordinate with manufacturing and warehouse supervisors to plan subcontract jobs and prepare materials for outsource vendors.
  • Proactively manage inventory accuracy activities for materials held at outsource suppliers.
  • Implement inventory adjustments, cost modifications, and cost rollups within the ERP system as necessary.
  • Support level pricing and updates to custom price lists as required.
  • Act as a backup for Inventory Control, Part Maintenance, and Order Fulfillment functions.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
  • In-depth understanding of inventory planning demands in a job shop environment.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, including pivot tables, LOOKUP functions, SUMIF, and Macros.
  • Familiarity with basic database concepts and queries (SQL, BAQ, etc.).
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations including percentages, fractions, and basic arithmetic.
  • Effective team player, able to build and maintain trust in working relationships.
  • Proactive engagement with all Operations functions (manufacturing, warehouse, and purchasing) to complete job scheduling processes.
  • Detail-oriented with the capacity to identify and resolve issues before they impact customers or the organization.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and multitasking skills, with the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Solid understanding of lean production methodologies and material flow within a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to document and co-create ISO: 9001 compliant processes related to planning and scheduling.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in demand and supply planning using an ERP system, preferably Epicor.
  • High School Diploma is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Operations, Supply Chain, or Accounting is preferred.
  • APICS certification is highly desirable.
  • A combination of training, education, and experience equivalent to the qualifications listed above, providing the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Working Conditions:

This position operates in a standard office environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, sit, and stand, using hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. Occasionally, the employee must crouch or kneel and may need to lift up to 20 pounds. Successful performance requires good eyesight, with or without corrective lenses, and involves extended periods of computer work and phone communication.
