We are seeking enthusiastic professionals to join our Control Laws team as Control Systems Engineers. This role involves supporting a variety of programs including advanced aircraft models and autonomy initiatives.
The position provides an opportunity to engage in diverse core Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) tasks, focusing on the interaction of control systems with vehicle dynamics. Key responsibilities include evaluating system robustness, performance metrics, handling qualities, and load assessments to validate system designs.
Additionally, the role encompasses ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and specifications through testing, analysis, and design reviews, ultimately contributing to the delivery of products that meet airworthiness standards.
Position Responsibilities:
- Gather, define, and document system-level requirements to support flight control and mission objectives.
- Conduct design and analysis of GNC models and tools, ensuring thorough documentation.
- Assist in troubleshooting operational anomalies and functional tests.
- Execute tests and perform analysis or simulations in accordance with FAA, MILSPEC, and NASA guidelines.
- Support the development of solutions to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Engage in new business development initiatives while working under general supervision.
- Perform frequency domain analysis using Matlab/Simulink to evaluate system stability and conduct time domain performance assessments.
- Participate in the development and review of design requirements, demonstrating compliance through appropriate testing and analysis.
- Develop and execute detailed test procedures utilizing flight control test facilities.
- Participate in engineering development and pilot demonstrations within engineering flight simulators.
- Identify and address control law design and implementation challenges.
- Support flight tests as required.
Required Skills:
Candidates must possess an ABET-accredited bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. Experience in System Safety Analysis, including failure modes and effects analysis, fault tree analysis, and general familiarity with flight control systems is essential.
Preferred Skills:
Basic experience with UNIX systems and a solid understanding of classical and modern control theory are advantageous. A general knowledge of flight theory and aerodynamics is also preferred.
Education:
A bachelor's degree with typically 9 or more years of experience in an engineering role, or a master's degree with 7 or more years of experience, or a PhD with 4 or more years of experience in an engineering classification is required. Candidates should hold a degree from an accredited program in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or chemistry.
