We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Construction Site Safety Specialist to join our team at Doyon Government Group. As a key member of our safety team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and health of our employees, subcontractors, and clients on construction sites.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and Implement Safety Plans: Create and review accident prevention plans, activity hazard analyses, and crane and rigging plans to ensure a safe working environment.
- Conduct Site Inspections: Perform daily site inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Provide Safety Education and Training: Deliver on-site safety education to subcontractors and employees to promote a culture of safety.
- Coordinate Safety Issues: Work with the Quality Control Manager and site Superintendent to address new definable features of work and ensure safety compliance.
- Manage Safety Activities: Oversee site-specific safety activities, including permit required confined space, abatement, lockout/tag out activities, and other safety-related tasks.
- Prioritize Daily Tasks: Balance daily tasks to maintain safety compliance and project schedule.
- Investigate Mishaps: Conduct thorough investigations and complete required accident reports to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure Subcontractor Compliance: Verify that subcontractors adhere to safety and health requirements.
- Provide Safety Orientations: Deliver 1st-day site safety orientations to new employees.
- Maintain Safety Records: Ensure accurate and up-to-date records of safety incidents, training, and compliance.
- Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience and education.
- Construction Industry Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in construction industry safety.
- Federal Government Experience: Experience working on federal government construction projects (USACE and/or NAVFAC).
- OSHA Certification: 30-hour OSHA construction safety class or equivalent.
- Specialized Training: Fall Protection, HAZWOPR 40, Lead awareness, blood-borne pathogens, first aid/CPR, confined space management, attendant, and rescue, general competent person, trenching and shoring competent person, control of hazardous energies, forklift, man-lift, and fire watch training certified.
- Annual Safety Training: Average of at least 24 hours of formal safety training each year for the past 4 years with training for competent person status for at least the following areas of competency: Excavation, Scaffolding, Fall protection, Hazardous energy, Confined space, Health hazard recognition, evaluation, and control of chemical, physical, and biological agents.
- CHST Certification: Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) certification.
The majority of the work is performed in an indoor/outdoor setting with a wide variety of people in differing functions, personalities, and abilities.
Physical DemandsAn individual will be required to perform climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger, grasp, feel, talk, hear, and repeat motions. Light Work: Exerting up to 40 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 15 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects is required.
