Purpose

The role is responsible for overseeing and directing all aspects of a large-scale food service operation, which includes food preparation and delivery, staff training, administrative tasks, supply ordering, customer service, cash management, and food service supervision.

Responsibilities
  • Manage multiple tasks and assist in organizing and directing all personnel within a dining unit. Support all marketing, merchandising, and program initiatives.
  • Assist in assessing needs, setting objectives, ordering supplies, guiding operations, and analyzing product movement and sales trends to optimize inventory management.
  • Foster effective working relationships and positively influence and motivate team members. Ensure ongoing professional development for staff.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all responsibilities. Train, mentor, assess, and supervise full-time, temporary, and student employees.
  • Act as a backup for other dining supervisors and managers as needed. Operate a university vehicle.
  • Stay informed about the university's environment, mission, and operations.
  • Proactively identify issues and areas for improvement, proposing viable and logical solutions.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Two years of experience in food service within a restaurant, commercial, or institutional setting.
  • One year of supervisory experience in food service or a similar role.
  • Experience with standard kitchen equipment operation.
  • Ability to complete and maintain food safety training and cash handling training throughout employment.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Culinary degree.
  • Three or more years of food service experience in a restaurant, commercial, or institutional setting.
  • Two or more years of supervisory experience in food service or a similar role.
  • Experience in training, coaching, and evaluating staff in a high-volume, fast-paced food service environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and computer systems.
  • Professional demeanor with the ability to engage with a diverse customer base.
Salary Range

$47,840+ based on qualifications

Working Conditions
  • Uniforms and/or personal protective equipment provided.
  • May work in extreme temperatures.
  • May be exposed to chemical fumes.
  • May work in standard office conditions.
  • Manual dexterity required.
  • Climbing stairs and lifting may be necessary.
Work Shift

Workdays, areas, and hours may vary based on the needs of the unit and Housing and Dining.
