This position is situated within a corporate office setting. Occasionally, the position requires access to a manufacturing area, where safety protocols must be adhered to, including the use of personal protective equipment around operational machinery.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Proposal Development:
a. Generate proposals for new components based on customer specifications.
b. Specify the suitable machine tools, materials, cycle times, tooling costs, and any external services required.
2. Documentation and Tool Layout:
a. Develop tool layout sheets that detail all necessary tooling and hardware for specific jobs on designated machine tools, including Autocrib inventory numbers for easy operator access to cutting tools.
b. Create color-coded offset prints to guide machine operators on tool effects on part geometry, enabling precise adjustments to maintain specifications.
c. Regularly update layouts and offset prints to reflect process enhancements and modifications.
3. CNC Programming and Process Engineering:
a. Formulate machining processes, including:
i. Sequence of operations.
ii. Selection of machine tools.
iii. Choice of cutting tools.
iv. Workholding methods.
v. Appropriate machining techniques to achieve desired outcomes, such as drilling, reaming, boring, and threading.
vi. Determine machining parameters (speeds, feeds, and depth of cut) based on material properties.
vii. Develop CNC programs using CAD CAM software for various CNC machines, ensuring compatibility with different control systems.
viii. Set up part files in tool presetters for all relevant processes.
4. Training and Development:
a. Educate personnel on machine setup, operation, and maintenance for all CNC machinery.
5. Continuous Improvement Initiatives:
a. Monitor and enhance cycle times and process capabilities across all CNC equipment.
6. Machine Setup Support:
a. Assist with machine setups during peak times or in the absence of designated personnel.
7. Problem Solving and Corrective Actions:
a. Participate in meetings with quality control to address process inefficiencies and quality issues.
8. Machinery Troubleshooting:
a. Seek guidance from equipment manufacturers when necessary to resolve technical issues.
b. Utilize knowledge of PLC programming to diagnose and rectify machine logic malfunctions.
c. Identify and procure cost-effective replacement parts for machinery repairs.
d. Coordinate the repair and refurbishment of mechanical and electronic components.
9. Manufacturing of Replacement Parts:
a. Fabricate repair and replacement components for machine tools as needed.
