CNC Engineering Specialist

This position is situated within a corporate office setting. The role frequently utilizes standard office apparatus such as computers, telephones, photocopiers, filing systems, and fax machines. Occasionally, it necessitates access to a manufacturing area, where one may encounter operational machinery and equipment. Adherence to safety protocols and the use of personal protective equipment is mandatory at all times within the manufacturing facility.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Proposal Development:

a. Generate proposals for new components based on customer specifications.

b. Specify suitable machine tools, materials, cycle times, tooling costs, additional operations, and external services required.

2. Documentation and Tool Layout:

a. Develop tool layout documentation detailing all necessary tooling and hardware for job setup on specific machine tools, including inventory identification for perishable tools.

b. Create color-coded documentation to inform machine operators of tool effects on part geometry, enabling necessary adjustments to maintain specifications.

c. Regularly update layouts and documentation to reflect process enhancements and modifications.

3. CNC Programming and Process Engineering:

a. Formulate machining processes including:

i. Sequence of operations.

ii. Selection of machine tools.

iii. Choice of cutting tools.

iv. Workholding methods.

v. Appropriate machining techniques to achieve desired outcomes such as drilling, reaming, boring, and more.

vi. Establish machining parameters (speeds, feeds, and depth of cut) based on material and tool specifications.

vii. Develop CNC programs utilizing CAD CAM software for various CNC machinery.

viii. Set up part files in tool presetters for all relevant processes.

4. Training:

a. Educate personnel on machine setup, operation, and maintenance for all relevant machinery.

5. Continuous Improvement:

a. Assess and enhance cycle times and process capabilities across all CNC machines.

6. Machine Setup:

a. Execute machine setups when the department is under time constraints or when designated personnel are unavailable.

7. Problem Solving:

a. Participate in meetings with quality control to offer technical solutions for process inefficiencies and quality issues.

8. Machinery Troubleshooting:

a. Seek guidance from equipment manufacturers when issues cannot be resolved internally.

b. Possess knowledge of PLC programming to diagnose malfunctions within machine logic.

c. Identify and procure cost-effective replacement parts for machinery repairs.

d. Coordinate the repair and refurbishment of mechanical and electronic components.

9. Manufacturing Parts:

a. Fabricate repair and replacement components for machine tools.
