Position Overview

A.T. Still University's School of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona (ATSU-SOMA) is on the lookout for a full-time exempt faculty member specializing in Osteopathic Principles and Practice (OPP) at the assistant or associate level. This role is based on the Mesa, Arizona campus and is integral to delivering exceptional education within ATSU-SOMA's comprehensive curriculum, which encompasses anatomy, medical skills, and small group sessions focused on case-based inquiry.

Key Responsibilities:

Instructional Duties

  • Collaborate effectively with the OPP team, Deans, Course Directors, faculty, and staff to enhance ATSU-SOMA's self-directed small group integrative curricular model.
  • Deliver OPP didactic lectures and hands-on training.
  • Contribute to the development of Year 1 and Year 2 OPP courses.
  • Assist in the creation and administration of practical and written examinations for OPP in Years 1 and 2.
  • Monitor attendance at mandatory events and notify course directors of any unplanned student absences.
  • Mentor OPP Fellows in their educational and clinical skill development.
  • Support the Osteopathic Medicine Center Arizona in patient care, interprofessional education/practice, and clinical instruction in OMT.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the OPP Chair.

Accreditation Responsibilities

  • Uphold and promote the mission and vision of ATSU-SOMA.
  • Engage in and support committee meetings as assigned.

Service to ATSU and ATSU-SOMA

  • Participate in designated institutional activities.
  • Serve on various ATSU and SOMA committees.
  • Assist the OPP department in achieving ATSU's strategic objectives.

Scholarly Activities

  • Seek and apply for grant funding to support innovative initiatives and research related to OPP.
  • Participate in research activities as requested.
  • Engage in scholarly endeavors to disseminate innovations in OPP curriculum and research, ideally through peer-reviewed publications and presentations at various levels.

General Expectations

  • Communicate effectively and interact professionally with students, staff, faculty, and leadership.
  • Act as a departmental representative in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of student data in compliance with applicable laws and institutional policies.
  • May involve osteopathic patient care and/or supervision of OPP fellows.
  • Contribute to the supervision of OPP Fellows, including oversight of teaching responsibilities, examinations, clinical duties, and scholarly activities.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience

  • Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree with completion of a neuromusculoskeletal residency program, board eligible or board certified in Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine, or equivalent experience and postgraduate training.
  • Knowledge of OPP/OMM examination procedures is essential.
  • Familiarity with NBOME item writing is required.
  • Ability to meet deadlines for didactic sessions, labs, and other assignments.
  • Must possess a valid medical license to practice in Arizona.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • One to two years of experience in osteopathic manipulative medicine is preferred.
