Position Overview:
The Youth Street Outreach Case Manager will deliver trauma-informed and culturally sensitive case management services for homeless, runaway, and at-risk youth. This role encompasses direct client engagement as well as community outreach initiatives, which include conducting school presentations, managing resource tables at various events, fostering relationships with school counselors and social workers, organizing drop-in services, and participating in an on-call rotation for the Safe Place network within the Kansas City Metro Area.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Demonstrates positive and healthy relationship-building by treating all participants, staff, and volunteers with compassion, respect, and dignity.
  • Collaborates with colleagues and other departments to address challenges and enhance processes.
  • Responds to outreach requests from homeless and at-risk youth, meeting them at community locations to provide advocacy, referrals, and necessary resources.
  • Establishes and nurtures partnerships with community organizations, educational institutions, and other youth-focused entities to raise awareness about youth homelessness and available resources.
  • Plans and facilitates activities and workshops for homeless and runaway youth in various community settings.
  • Engages in mandatory staff development training, team meetings, and community youth-oriented coalition gatherings.
  • Accurately documents significant events and interactions, ensuring timely data entry into relevant databases.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
  • Physical requirements include bending, stooping, walking, standing, sitting, and reaching; must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Willingness to travel between locations for meetings and training within the local community.

Qualifications:

Associate degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year of relevant experience and/or training, or a combination of education and experience.


  • Preference for candidates with experience in positive youth development, particularly with homeless and LGBTQ youth, and familiarity with local resources.
  • Minimum age requirement of 21 years.
  • Completion of specialized training, including First Aid, CPR, and Medication Certification, is required.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with a diverse population of participants, service providers, and staff.
  • Values diversity and possesses an understanding of multicultural competencies, including issues of power, privilege, and inequity.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws, rules, policies, and procedures related to housing assistance programs.
  • Ability to adapt to changing business needs and respond positively to new challenges.
  • Experience in providing supervision and services related to mental health, physical disabilities, substance use, domestic violence, and the LGBTQ community.
  • Demonstrates accountability for the quality and timeliness of work.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills to convey expectations clearly and resolve conflicts constructively.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, fostering trust and respect among colleagues.
  • Capability to work efficiently under pressure in a dynamic environment.
  • A collaborative team player with strong leadership, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office, particularly Outlook.
  • Must pass a criminal background check and pre-employment drug screening.
  • Valid driver's license and current automobile insurance are required.

Business hours are Monday through Friday with a weekly on-call rotation.
