The Opportunity

As a Phlebotomist at CSL, you will play a critical role in the efficient and effective collection of plasma from donors. Your primary responsibility will be to perform venipuncture, monitor the pheresis process, and follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure the highest quality of plasma collection.

The Role

  • Perform all aspects of the pheresis procedure and plasma collection, including donor set-up, donor monitoring, and donor disconnect, in compliance with SOPs.
  • Conduct venipuncture on donors to begin the pheresis process, adhering to SOPs and FDA guidelines.
  • Evaluate vein performance to identify potential issues and make necessary corrections to expedite donation time and ensure product quality and donor safety.
  • May educate new donors on the use of therapeutic products made from donated plasma, explaining the screening process, health screening tests, appointment system, donation fees, center policies, and proper nutrition.
  • Monitor donor flow on the donor floor to ensure continuous turnover and alert the Group Leader or Supervisor of any issues.
  • Collect arm samples or whole blood samples from donors for testing and accurately record donor data in the electronic donor information management system.
  • Understand and maintain confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information.
  • May be cross-trained in other areas to meet business needs and may be required to work overtime and extended hours to support center operational needs.

Your Skills and Experience

Education

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Experience

  • Minimum eighteen (12) months experience in a medical or healthcare environment preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Working Conditions

  • Ability to complete routine forms or conduct routine oral communications.
  • Understand, remember, and communicate routine, factual information.
  • Must be able to see and speak with customers and observe equipment operation.
  • Occasionally perform tasks while standing and walking up to 100% of the time.
  • Reach, bend, kneel, and have a high level of manual dexterity.
  • Occasionally required to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Frequently exposed to hazardous chemicals, extreme temperatures, and to blood-borne pathogens.
  • Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment while performing specific tasks or in certain areas.
