The Center for Homeland Security and Infrastructure Resilience at CNA is dedicated to developing analytical, data-driven solutions to tackle intricate and emerging challenges. Our work encompasses analysis and strategic planning, the creation of decision-support tools, and the design of training programs and exercises aimed at enhancing the safety and security of our nation's residents, visitors, environment, infrastructure, economy, and cyberspace.

Contribute to project and organizational needs through (1) the collection, processing, vetting, and analysis of relevant data for further application and/or (2) executing technical assistance activities such as organizing meetings and seminars, and/or (3) aiding in the proposal development process by gathering and organizing resumes, past performance reports, and corporate capabilities. Serve as the primary data collector and provide substantive contributions to CNA studies and proposals, including project planning and coordination, report preparation, memoranda, newsletter articles, and quality reviews.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Utilize standard research methodologies to gather, process, and analyze data. Employ relevant database software to efficiently organize and present data and generate reports. Exhibit proficiency at the intermediate level with Microsoft Office and other standard CNA software packages to fulfill primary responsibilities. Structure project tasks such as literature reviews, environmental scans, and interviews. Take ownership of drafting the corresponding sections of reports. Begin to structure problems of moderate complexity and design research, technical assistance, or proposal development tasks. Capable of constructing briefings using MS PowerPoint and demonstrating intermediate to advanced skills with MS Word and Excel.

2. Acquire a foundational understanding of the missions and organizational structure of the division or team's primary clients/sponsors. Develop institutional knowledge of at least one key client/sponsor. Identify key individuals within their organization and understand the client's/sponsor's significance to CNA.

3. Engage in meetings with the project team. Assist in preparations for client/sponsor interactions. Identify the client/sponsor point of contact for their projects. Maintain awareness of major communications between the project team and client/sponsor point of contact for any project in which they are involved. Contribute as needed in meetings with clients/sponsors and the project team.

4. Cultivate a sufficient understanding or expertise on specific tasks, issues, or data to positively influence project outcomes.

5. Gain basic knowledge about CNA, its organization, key personnel, and relevant standard operating procedures (SOPs), including a fundamental understanding of the CNA business environment. Understand core concepts related to project development. Develop fluency in CNA's business environment and SOPs, including procedures for initiating and closing projects, hiring subcontractors and consultants, and monitoring financial aspects and other project-related activities. Capable of contributing to most financial discussions at the project level.

6. Possess the necessary skills to communicate information clearly, accurately, and grammatically in both oral and written formats. Present and summarize data effectively. Draft sections of reports, briefings, or other project deliverables in accordance with requirements and scholarly norms (if applicable).

7. Work more independently on focused, well-structured components of projects, estimating the time and resources required for these tasks. Operate under close supervision on broader project strands. Track personal project expenditures. Begin to understand project budgeting and financial tracking throughout the project lifecycle.

8. Demonstrate a positive attitude in interactions with colleagues, clients/sponsors, and staff. Take accountability for personal actions and outcomes. Proactively seek ways to enhance processes and operations, contributing to making CNA a better workplace.

9. Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Education: Bachelor's degree plus a minimum of 2 years of experience in a designated technical skill (research, programming, foreign languages, event planning, etc.) or a Master's degree.

2. Experience: At least 2 years of relevant experience required.

3. Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office; database management; strong interpersonal and oral and written communication skills; robust critical thinking and organizational skills; knowledge of research techniques.
