Your Role
The Privacy Office at Blue Shield of California develops and oversees the organization's Privacy Program. The program ensures that Blue Shield and its affiliated entities are in compliance with state and federal privacy laws and regulations, including HIPAA and HITECH.
The Privacy Program Specialist reports to the Privacy Office Manager or Director and plays a crucial role in advancing and enforcing Blue Shield's Privacy Program.
Key Responsibilities:
- Be responsible for monitoring Blue Shield's compliance with state and federal privacy laws, including HIPAA and HITECH
- Audit and monitor compliance with the Privacy Program, developing corrective action plans on behalf of the Privacy Office, and advising on CAPs issued by other business units
- Conduct Privacy Impact Assessments and Data Protection Impact Assessments
- Develop and implement workforce privacy training, policies, procedures, and educational tools
- Assist in evaluating requests from internal clients to disclose protected health information to third parties
- Respond to privacy complaints and incidents reported to the Privacy Office, lead assigned investigations, and direct mitigation efforts
- Consult with internal clients as a subject matter expert to provide guidance on proposed projects and initiatives
- Negotiate Business Associate Agreements
- Act as a liaison with regulatory enforcement agencies to address technical assistance letters, investigation compliance reviews, audits, and other related reviews
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- At least 7 years of relevant experience in healthcare, legal services, audit, investigative services, systems support, corporate training, or a related field
- Prior experience in healthcare is highly preferred
- CIPP/US Certification or HCCA CHPC Certification is desired but not required
Salary Range:
$109,120.00 - $163,680.00 per year (California location)
