Position Overview

HOK is seeking a Senior Project Architect to contribute to our architectural projects. In this role, you will collaborate closely with the Project Manager and Project Designer, ensuring the financial success of projects and effective communication within the team. You will oversee the quality and content of deliverables, manage technical documentation, and coordinate with various disciplines, including consultants.

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Ensure the design vision established by the Project Designer is accurately reflected in detailed documentation.
  • Oversee the design process from initial concepts through to construction administration, maintaining design integrity.
  • Address technical challenges and ensure coordination for assigned project segments.
  • Collaborate with the Specification Writer to create specifications and ensure alignment between drawings and specifications.
  • Review completed reports, plans, estimates, and calculations for precision.
  • Establish strategies for document production and determine the organization of data within files, including Building Information Model (BIM) elements.
  • Set up software parameters for the project team and uphold standards.
  • Maintain a collaborative relationship with the Project Leadership Team.
  • Communicate effectively with other disciplines, vendors, and contractors to integrate all project requirements.
  • Ensure construction documentation meets quality assurance and best practice standards.
  • Supervise the preparation of technical drawings by junior architects or technicians.
  • Act as a team leader on selected projects.
  • Mentor and guide less experienced staff, participate in professional development reviews, and lead 'Lessons Learned' sessions.
  • Promote sustainable work practices to foster an environmentally friendly workplace.
  • Commit to delivering exceptional service to both internal and external clients.

Client Engagement

  • Develop a trustworthy relationship with client leadership.
  • Regularly communicate with client representatives to confirm design requirements, review progress, and present final outcomes.

Team Collaboration

  • Receive project direction from the Principal in Charge and technical guidance from the RBU Technical Principal.
  • Coordinate and track shared electronic documentation with project teams, clients, and consultants.
  • Assist in planning and executing work, making necessary adjustments to complete working drawing sets.
  • Engage with municipal building departments and other regulatory agencies to secure approvals or variances.
  • Draft reports and memos to consultants and vendors to communicate changes and track resolutions.
  • Provide technical support and project updates to the team as needed.
  • Participate in site visits, field reviews, and project meetings, and prepare contractor schedule reviews and submissions.
  • Support the Specification Writer in product research and material selection for projects.
  • Contribute to specification setup and drawing coordination, ensuring adherence to HOK Standards.
  • Offer expertise to team members in specific markets or disciplines.
  • Engage in team meetings to address project issues, coordination, scheduling, and technical challenges.
  • Review project costs and budgets, ensuring compliance with schedules.
  • Document minutes from consultant coordination meetings.
  • May prepare 2D and 3D presentation drawings and models for client review.
  • Incorporate Integrated Sustainable Design solutions into projects.

Business Development

  • May participate in business development discussions with team leaders to identify project and client opportunities.

Required Skills

  • Extensive knowledge of design trends, construction methods, material applications, and supplier appropriateness.
  • Strong understanding of architectural building systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of sustainability practices, integrated design, and LEED guidelines.
  • Familiarity with QA/QC processes.
  • Comprehensive understanding of building codes and their application in technical documents.
  • Proficient in the Construction Administration Process.
  • Expertise in Revit is essential.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Experience with 3D modeling software such as Sketchup, Lumion, Enscape, TwinMotion, and Rhino is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Affinity software suite is advantageous.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Capable of meeting deadlines efficiently.
  • Ability to lead teams and collaborate with other project leaders.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in architecture or equivalent education/experience is required; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of design experience.
  • Licensed Architect with current registration in your region is required, where applicable.
  • NCARB registration is preferred.
  • LEED credential must be obtained within 6 months of employment.
