At The City of Providence, we seek individuals dedicated to making a meaningful difference in our community.
Role Summary: This position is responsible for delivering housing resources, advocacy, and referrals to families residing in transitional shelters. The aim is to assist these families in securing stable and safe housing. The role includes outreach efforts to engage underserved populations and process requests for rental and security deposit assistance to avert homelessness. The Housing Support Specialist will also provide coaching and support to help clients overcome challenges in maintaining stable housing. This role will operate in collaboration with local community organizations.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in a relevant human/social services field or an Associate's degree with practical experience.
- A minimum of one year of experience in case management or related fields.
- Experience in providing housing support services, particularly within the local area.
- Proficiency in Microsoft applications and electronic record systems.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Must possess or be willing to obtain a Community Health Worker certification within the first year of employment.
- Must possess or be willing to obtain a Housing First certification within the first year of employment.
- A valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and current automobile insurance are required.
- Flexibility to work in a hybrid environment and adapt to varying schedules based on client needs.
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish is mandatory.
- Bilingual candidates will receive an additional 6% compensation above the base salary.
Physical Demands:
- This role involves a combination of remote, office-based, and community outreach work.
- Employees must be able to travel to various locations, which may involve navigating stairs and elevators.
- Ability to lift items weighing up to 20 lbs is required.
