Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design, analysis, and development of complex mechanical systems from conceptual stages to production. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, including precision mechanism, kinematics, lasers, and thermal control.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, analysis, and development of complex mechanical systems.
  • Perform engineering analysis using commercially available FEA software, MATLAB, spreadsheets, etc.
  • Assist in rapid prototyping/modifying hardware using hand tools, band saw, vertical mill, and/or lathe.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of all drawings, engineering records, analyses, and tasks of assigned projects.
  • Produce comprehensive documentation, including design drawings, design specifications, analysis results, and assembly instructions.
  • Responsible for completion of assigned tasks on time and meeting technical requirements.
  • Supports programmatic design to cost and design for manufacturability requirements.
  • Develop and test prototypes, ensuring designs are optimized for both performance and manufacturability and to retire key development risks as directed.
  • Interact effectively and efficiently as part of a multi-member, multi-function team, as well as with customers and suppliers, write reports and contribute peer reviewed publications and invention disclosures.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior mechanical engineers, promoting best practices and fostering professional growth.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 5 years of post-college experience in mechanical design and product development.
  • Proficient in CAD tools such as SolidWorks and commercially available FEA tools.
  • Strong understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and mechanical design principles.
  • Proven track record of bringing products from concept to production.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
