WSP is in search of a Junior Civil Engineering Associate to join our team.
Your responsibilities will include providing local technical support for the design, development, and execution of infrastructure initiatives across both public and private sectors.
Tasks may encompass assisting with research, design, conceptual development, and construction of various structures such as roads, buildings, tunnels, dams, bridges, water supply systems, and sewage treatment facilities.
You will be responsible for generating precise and clear documentation related to your assigned project components.
It is essential to ensure that your responsibilities are fulfilled with a quality level that meets or surpasses industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.
Under general supervision, you will assist in gathering, compiling, and analyzing data from physical work sites, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, subsurface utility information, maps, geotechnical data, and other matrices essential for project development, design, and construction.
Engage in basic professional civil engineering tasks, including conducting research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, resources, infrastructure, and transportation systems to verify compliance with relevant regulations, standards, and permits.
Perform routine engineering functions and provide entry-level technical support concerning various design requirements and operational strategies to ensure the safety and functionality of users, systems, and infrastructure.
Assist in verifying site characteristics and offer fundamental technical support on diverse engineering, design, and construction matters.
Generate comprehensive, accurate, and concise documentation utilizing electronic systems, drawings, and field/work site notebooks/logs.
Adhere to safety protocols and site-specific procedures, which include but are not limited to location data, statistical documentation, engineering studies, surveys, and construction practices.
Complete training on assigned tasks.
Exhibit responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company resources and conduct, while adhering to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies.
Fulfill additional responsibilities as dictated by business needs.
Who You AreRequired Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a closely related field.
- 0 to 1 year of relevant post-education experience.
- Strong research capabilities with an analytical approach.
- Familiarity with design/build processes and concepts.
- Understanding of civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
- Competent interpersonal and communication skills for effective interaction with both engineering and non-engineering audiences.
Demonstrated self-leadership with attention to detail, multitasking abilities, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
- Ability to work independently under general supervision and collaboratively within a team to achieve business objectives.
- Basic proficiency in technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, and relevant tools.
- Proven commitment to workplace safety and adherence to WSP's health, safety, and drug/alcohol policies.
Willingness to work schedules that accommodate project-specific requirements, which may extend beyond standard work hours.
- Occasional travel may be necessary based on project-specific needs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Engineer in Training Certification.
- Familiarity with discipline-specific design software (e.g., MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, InRoads, Geopak, GeoSlope, ANSYS, STADD, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS).
- Previous internship experience related to your field of study and specific engineering discipline.
