Nuclear Medicine Technologist

Job Summary:
The Nuclear Medicine Technologist is responsible for performing complex nuclear medicine examinations to assist physicians in the detection, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases and abnormalities. This role involves the proper positioning of patients, maintenance and adjustment of nuclear equipment, and maintenance of radiographic files.
Responsibilities:
- Positions and instructs patients in preparation for the application of radio nuclides using specialized equipment and procedures.
- Makes adjustments to nuclear equipment to correct settings for each examination as prescribed by the attending physician.
- Handles emergency situations and reviews the PACS processing of nuclear medicine.
- Prepares and maintains records and files of procedures, purges outdated files, and troubleshoots equipment failure.
- Requisitions supplies, consults with referring physicians, and may assist in providing training and technical direction to lower-level technicians and nurses.
- Establishes and maintains effective relations with medical and nursing staff to ensure adequate and timely servicing of patients.
- May be requested to assist in the development of techniques for procedures and participate in continuing education programs in Nuclear Medicine Technology.
Qualifications/Requirements:
The ideal candidate will have good knowledge of modern procedures used in nuclear medicine examinations, operation of nuclear equipment, human anatomy, and required safety precautions. They must also possess certification and maintain current registration with either the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
